WSBT Radio Raises $4,700 for Red Cross with Impromptu Drive
Over the past months, nearly 500 Americans have been killed by tornadoes. Just before the Memorial Day weekend, Shurz Communication's WSBT Radio in South Bend, Ind., decided to organize a fundraising effort that would help further the already outstanding work the Red Cross does to help disaster victims. The drive was organized in just two days and both WSBT-AM, Newsradio 960, and WSBT-FM, Sunny 101.5, broadcasted their morning shows on Friday, May 27 from two busy Martin's Supermarkets locations in South Bend.
Red Cross personnel were on-hand to collect the monetary donations and a representative of the St. Joseph County Chapter of the Red Cross made appearances on both radio shows to highlight the need for donations and to let the public know how the money will be used. The WSBT-TV "First Thing in the Morning" news crew also pitched in to provide live shots during the televised morning news.
The generous local community provided $4,700 in donations to the Red Cross in just four short hours.
WIL-FM Radio Host Assembles 6,600 Person Team for St. Louis Race for the Cure
Hubbard Broadcasting's WIL-FM St. Louis has been involved with the local Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure for several years. Before this year's race on Saturday, June 11, WIL-FM's morning show host Cornbread was active in promoting the event and encouraging listeners to join his group, Team Breadhead. With numerous on-air appeals, Cornbread successfully assembled 6,600 people for his team, making his the biggest group to participate in the St. Louis race. Race for the Cure, which this year included 70,000 people, annually raises money for breast cancer research.
