NAB to Copyright Office: Eliminate Distant MVPD Licenses; Retain Local Licenses

In Reply Comments filed May 25, NAB refuted MVPD claims that if statutory licenses enabling them to retransmit broadcast signals were eliminated, retransmission consent and program exclusivity rules would have to be eliminated as well. NAB emphasized that retransmission consent rights in a broadcaster's signal are separate and distinct from the copyrights in the programs carried on those signals. NAB reiterated that the distant signal MVPD statutory licenses should be eliminated, while the local licenses should be retained. Click here to view NAB's Reply Comments.
