WJLA-TV Educates Teenagers about Driving Dangers

Allbritton-owned ABC affiliate WJLA-TV Washington, D.C., recently hosted a “Drive to Stay Alive” event as part of the six-year series dedicated to teaching local teenagers and their parents about the perils of distracted driving and other causes of auto accidents and fatalities including alcohol, fatigue, failure to wear a seatbelt, speeding and cell phone use. WJLA anchor Leon Harris and Maryland law enforcement hosted the event at Rockville, Md.'s Thomas S. Wootton High School and reminded parents to talk to their adolescents about safe habits for both passengers and drivers. The “Drive to Stay Alive” teen driving initiative began as a response to the tragic automobile fatalities of 32 students during the fall of 2004. Since then, WJLA has dedicated hundreds of hours to schools across their viewership, delivering teen driving presentations that encourage safety and good decision-making behind the wheel.
