Pending Applications for Analog LPTV and Translators Must Be Amended to Specify Digital Operation

The FCC has released a Public Notice announcing that pending applications for new analog low-power television (LPTV) and TV translator stations must amended by May 24, 2010, to specify digital operations. Pending applications that are not amended by that date will not be processed.

Pending applications are listed in an attachment to the Public Notice. Such amendment will be considered a “major change” to the pending analog application and will be subject to a $705 filing fee. Amendments must be filed electronically using FCC Form 346. Paper-filed amendments will not be accepted.

The FCC has not yet set a digital conversion date for existing LPTV and translator stations, but the FCC staff’s recently-released National Broadband Plan urged the FCC to set a deadline for existing stations.
