Today broadcasters nationwide will band together to participate in "Broadcasters for Haiti Day," an NAB led initiative aimed at boosting relief efforts in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti. NAB is urging radio and television stations to 'roadblock' specific times of day, dedicating airtime to fundraising relief efforts, telephone banks, radiothons and telethons. NAB is also encouraging stations to produce localized public service announcements using on-air talent.
"'Broadcasters for Haiti Day' represents the culmination of tremendous efforts by broadcasters across the country who have already dedicated significant airtime to this important cause," said NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith.
To support this effort, NAB is working closely with the American Red Cross, the Ad Council and a variety of other organizations to provide radio and television stations with critical earthquake relief information. Resources including television and radio PSAs and live read scripts in English and Spanish are available on NAB's dedicated public service Web site, www.NABSpotCenter.org.
NAB is also asking stations to send brief updates on their "Broadcasters for Haiti Day" efforts to publicservice@nab.org.
