WTUZ-FM New Philadelphia, Ohio was one of 10 NAB Crystal Radio Award winners for 2009. Here is the summary of their 2008 community service efforts that the station submitted as part of their entry:

WTUZ is described by others as super-serving our market. Our employees are so committed to our communities it is difficult to separate their identities as individuals or station employees. In 2008, our 14 employees stepped up. When our area had a six-day power outage, WTUZ made the phone calls to open schools and other public facilities for showers. Batteries were impossible to find. We found a warehouse to deliver batteries for those in need. We were humbled when people cried because they received free batteries for their radios and flashlights. We were humbled when people drove 30 miles for batteries to stay connected to the world through radio. WTUZ raises an amazing amount of money every year for groups and organizations, but this year it was the batteries that made a difference in so many people’s lives. The station donated an estimated $570,000 in airtime and our employees volunteered more than 1,000 hours to station causes as well as more than 2,000 hours in personal causes. WTUZ will celebrate 19 years as a small market station but our commitment to service is legendary.
