NAB Participates in FCC Ownership Workshop

On November 2, 3 and 4, the FCC held a series of workshops relating to its broadcast ownership rules, in anticipation of the launching of its required "quadrennial" review of these rules that the agency must undertake in 2010. NAB Executive Vice President and General Counsel Jane Mago testified at the workshop on November 4, giving the broadcast industry's perspective as to how the FCC should approach its upcoming review of the ownership rules. She urged the FCC to recognize that the public interest is best served by permitting broadcasters to compete effectively in the digital multichannel marketplace. She also stressed that the FCC must take current competitive conditions into account as it reviews the broadcast ownership rules and that the FCC must base any decisions on current, realistic data that fully accounts for the impact that new media sources have on broadcast stations and the audiences they serve.
