NAB Staff Gets Extreme

In June 2009, the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) honored “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” with the Celebration of Service to America Leadership Award. The Leadership Award is NABEF’s highest honor and was given to “Extreme Makeover” in recognition of the program’s extraordinary public service. NAB staff had another opportunity to honor and serve this program by volunteering at an actual “Extreme Makeover” underway last week in Washington, D.C.

On Monday, August 24, a team of 25 NAB staff volunteered to help with the rebuilding of The Fishing School, a nationally recognized youth development organization that provides at-risk children and families with academic and parental support. Among other tasks, the NAB team literally helped lay the foundation for the new facility which, when finished, will be three times the size of the original school.

In addition to changing the lives of the deserving families featured on the show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” also involves viewers in making a difference for families across the country by encouraging volunteer service and charitable giving.

The two hour “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” special featuring the Washington, D.C. projects will air in November.
