New Online Petition Helps Fight the Performance Tax

Fighting the "performance tax" is NAB's top radio advocacy issue. At the heart of this issue, the foreign-owned record labels are urging Congress to impose a fee, what broadcasters consider a tax, on local radio stations. This tax would have crippling effects on the radio industry, and the record labels seem to give little regard to the fact that radio stations generate billions in record sales by providing free promotion for artists and performers – a mutually beneficial relationship that has worked well for decades.

NAB continues to aggressively defend broadcasters' interests on this issue. To date we have 237 representatives, more than the majority of the House, and 18 senators supporting our anti-performance tax resolution. But our work is not finished. NAB is continuing to build the cosponsor lists for both the House and Senate resolutions, we've launched a multiplatform marketing campaign to inform the public of the issue and we are in constant contact with more than 200 reporters covering this issue to educate them about the devastating effects of a performance tax.

Now, a new online petition is available to those in the radio industry to voice their opposition to the performance tax with members of Congress: www.saveyourradio.org. As this is a critical issue for our industry, I hope you will take the time to sign the petition and contact your legislators. This literally takes less than a minute. The site also allows you to email friends and suggest that they too sign the petition. Over 55,000 radio insiders, listeners and fans have signed the petition to date. Please visit www.saveyourradio.org today and help us in this effort.
