NAB Applauds Allowing FM Translator Use for AM Stations

The Federal Communications Commission adopted an order on June 29 by a 3-0 vote allowing AM radio stations to use FM translators, granting AM stations the ability to enhance their reach within a local community.

Commenting on the FCC action, NAB Executive Vice President of Media Relations Dennis Wharton issued the following statement: "AM stations broadcast some of the most localized programming in AMERICA, providing listeners with all-news, all-sports and all-talk formats focusing on community issues. Allowing the use of FM translators will help stations overcome some of the many technical challenges that are unique to AM broadcasting. We salute the FCC for recognizing the important role played by AM stations across the country."
