Caroline Beasley Testifies before House Communications Subcommittee

Last Thursday NAB Radio Board First Vice Chair and Executive Vice President and CFO of Beasley Broadcast Group Caroline Beasley testified on behalf of NAB before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet. This hearing reviewed testimony on several issues, including low-power FM (LPFM). Beasley's testimony focused on low-power FM stations and H.R. 1147, the Local Community Radio Act, legislation that would remove third adjacent channel protection for full-power broadcasters. Beasley presented industry concerns over lifting interference buffer protections; reminded the Committee of the tremendous community service provided by local full-power radio stations; and described how any lost listener, due to interference, is one less person reached at a time of disaster or emergency. Beasley also effectively engaged in a question and answer exchange that led to the FCC witness clarifying to Committee members that the government-commissioned Mitre report did in fact find interference in its testing. Proponents of the legislation have promoted that no interference was found and that the third adjacent protection should be removed.
