NAB Prepares for Final DTV Countdown

Heading into this final week of the June 12 transition to digital television, NAB and broadcasters across America are going all out to help consumers prepare.

With NAB research showing national awareness of the transition at near-universal levels, NAB has commissioned a final survey to capture a snapshot of consumer awareness and preparedness in the days preceding the switch. NAB’s pollster, SmithGeiger LLC, was in the field last week surveying over-the-air television households.

The results of the survey will be released during NAB’s national press conference on June 11 in Washington, D.C. Representatives from the Federal Communications Commission and Commerce Department are scheduled to participate, along with consumer and industry groups that have been key players in advancing the education efforts of the DTV Transition Coalition.

Meanwhile, local broadcasters are continuing to air multiple spots alerting consumers to the importance of rescanning for digital channels, positioning antennas for maximum reception and potential signal loss where applicable. NAB has also released a new radio spot promoting the national DTV helpline, 1-888-CALL-FCC, to assist consumers who failed to upgrade in time.
