FCC Clarifies Its Policy for Publicizing Walk-In DTV Help Centers

In an April 10 Public Notice, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) clarified broadcasters' obligation to publicize the location and hours of walk-in DTV help centers in their individual markets.

The notice defines “walk-in DTV help centers” as centers that are open for a minimum number of hours and have certain equipment and capabilities. Please see the link below for more detailed information. Any centers not meeting that definition can be, but are not required by the FCC to be, publicized by stations. Locations not meeting the FCC definition should not be called a walk-in DTV help center by stations.

Stations that do not have any centers meeting the FCC definition in their market must continue to post notices with, at minimum, the FCC Call Center number and TTY number and the station’s telephone number. The FCC requires that all stations keep up-to-date with their market and ensure that as centers open, their notices are updated for viewers.
