New DTV 30-Minute Educational Program Now Available

A new half-hour educational program on the switch to digital television (DTV) is now available to stations that are still broadcasting in analog.

The program produced by NAB, “Countdown to DTV: Are You Ready” explains what actions antenna TV viewers must take to upgrade to digital. It provides an update on the converter box coupon program and addresses important topics such as antennas, rescanning for channels and converter box installation. Both English and Spanish versions are available and the program is closed captioned.

In compliance with FCC requirements, stations under Option 2 (NAB plan) must air at least one 30-minute informational program after April 1, 2009, but before the station terminates analog. The program must contain certain local information (and service loss information for stations affected) and be broadcast between 8 a.m. and 11:35 p.m. For more information on requirements, please review the chart here.

NAB will distribute the program via satellite on Tuesday, April 14 at 12:45 p.m. (EDT). Information for this satellite feed can be found at www.dtvanswers.com/satellitefeed.
