Celebrating Community Service - 2009 Service to America Awards

On Monday, June 8, 2009, the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) will host its 11th annual Service to America Awards in Washington, D.C. Last year’s award winning celebration hosted more than 650 guests, including 29 members of Congress and three Federal Communications Commissioners. This year’s star-studded evening will again feature many of the broadcast industry’s most respected leaders and afford NABEF an opportunity to bestow its highest honor, the Service to America Leadership Award. The award, given for extraordinary public service, has been presented to Quincy Jones, Sir Elton John, Muhammad Ali, Former President Bill Clinton, Former First Lady Laura Bush, Former First Lady Nancy Reagan, Former President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter and Her Majesty Queen Noor. The 2009 Leadership Award recipient will be of equal stature. In addition, we will also recognize the extraordinary community service efforts of five local broadcasters.

The 2008 event made it possible for NABEF to award scholarships to students with financial need, train and place recent college graduates of color in media sales positions and provide an executive MBA-style program for women and people of color who aspire to be media executives or station owners. There are a number of ways for you to play a noticeable role in this year’s celebration. Please take a moment to review these options. We feel confident that you can find an opportunity that fits your particular needs. This year, more than ever, we need your active involvement as we continue to train the industry’s future leaders while demonstrating broadcasting’s deep commitment to serving the public interest.
