Five television stations in Louisville, Ky., are sending their executives and on-air talent to meet firsthand with community members and explain how the transition to digital television (DTV) may impact them.
The free DTV educational sessions will take place in more than a dozen area public libraries throughout the months of October and November. Seventeen events have been scheduled. An estimated 37,820 households in surrounding Jefferson County receive over-the-air broadcasts and must upgrade to digital before the February 17, 2009, transition deadline.
Participating broadcasters include: WHAS-TV's Gary Roedemeier, Melissa Swan, Doug Proffitt and Mark Pimentel; WAVE-TV's Dan Foos and Jim Sears; WBNA-TV's Tom Fawbush; and WLKY-TV's Glenn Haygood.
These broadcasters, as members of the DTV Speakers Bureau, have volunteered to address their local communities about the transition. A key grassroots initiative of NAB's DTV consumer education campaign, the bureau is on track to reach 8,000 audiences by February 2009.
