As football fans entered Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia to cheer on their favorite teams, a giant TV set on wheels was there to remind them about the upcoming switch to digital television (DTV).
During yesterday's sold-out Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles game, a DTV Trekker - a truck that looks like a huge analog TV - sat inside the stadium in HeadHouse Plaza with a two-person crew on hand to answer questions about the transition.
The high-profile event capped off the DTV Trekker's four-day visit to Philadelphia that included stops at a senior center and City Hall. On October 3, WHYY-TV teamed up with the Mayor's Commission on Technology to bring the Trekker to City Hall's Dilworth Plaza to help Philadelphians prepare for the transition. Officials from the mayor's commission and local broadcasters briefed the audience about the transition and the federal government’s converter box coupon program.
As part of NAB's DTV Road Show, two DTV Trekkers are crisscrossing the country, bringing information about the transition directly to communities with high over-the-air populations. Before the transition is completed, they will travel 95,000 miles and visit 600 locations in 200 markets nationwide.
