On June 12, KPHO-TV in Phoenix, Ariz., conducted multiple tests to help its viewers determine whether or not they are ready for the transition to digital television (DTV).
Throughout each of its morning and evening newscasts that day, KPHO briefly turned off its analog broadcast signal. Viewers with digital-ready TV sets saw no interruption in the station's newscasts. But viewers whose TV sets are not yet ready received instructions on what they needed to do.
Las Vegas' KVBC-TV and several other stations around the country have run similar tests that have been extremely helpful both to viewers and broadcasters. As such, NAB is encouraging its television station members to conduct DTV tests in advance of the nationwide switch on February 17, 2009.
