NAB recently announced its strong support for a report submitted by the Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC) to the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) on its evaluation of proposed mobile DTV systems. The OMVC report recommended the MPH transmission system developed by LG Electronics and Harris Corporation be used as the basis for an ATSC Standard for mobile DTV broadcasting. NAB also applauded the recent announcement by LG and Samsung to jointly support the findings of OMVC's evaluation on a recommended baseline transmission technology for the mobile DTV standard.

The announcements are consistent with requirements identified in a January report commissioned by the NAB FASTROAD technology advocacy program. The report found that timely adoption of a single standard for mobile DTV would be a necessary prerequisite for marketplace success. The report also found that broadcast television could reap an additional $2 billion in annual revenue by 2012 delivering content to mobile and handheld devices if an industry standard was adopted and technology deployed quickly.

"NAB has proudly supported and actively participated in the work of OMVC since its launch, and the results of their evaluation program submitted to ATSC today represent a major step forward in our shared goal of announcing mobile DTV services in February 2009," said NAB President and CEO David K. Rehr. "The newly-announced partnership of LG and Samsung is also an extremely positive development, which will further expedite the standard setting process and put mobile DTV service on the fast-track to successful deployment."
