NAB Files Opposition to Petition That Calls for Overturning Recent Media Ownership Decision
The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) filed opposition comments last week to a Petition for Reconsideration submitted by media critic group Common Cause, et al, that asks the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to overturn its December 2007 decision to slightly modify the ban on newspaper/broadcast cross-ownership. The Commission ruled that in the top 20 media markets, newspapers could combine with stations that are not among the four top stations in that market. NAB calls the changes "modest," especially in light of other media ownership rules that remain unchanged. The petitioners have offered no valid reason for reconsideration and grossly exaggerate the potential scope of the rule change, NAB asserts. Read NAB's comments here.
