NAB Asks FCC to Enforce DIRECTV's "Local-to-Local" Promise in All 210 TV Markets by Year-End

NAB recently filed a letter with the FCC asking that the Commission require DIRECTV, through Liberty Media, to make good on its 2003 promise and carry "true local-into-local DBS delivery" of broadcast signals in all 210 television markets by December 31, 2008.

"As of the present date, DIRECTV is offering local-into-local satellite delivery of local television stations in only 144 local markets - some 66 markets short of the promise it made to the FCC in 2003 that, by the end of 2008, it would deliver local television stations by satellite in all of the country's 210 local television markets," read the letter from NAB Senior Vice President and General Counsel Jane Mago.
