The 10th annual National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation's (NABEF) Celebration of Service to America Awards will be held Monday, June 9, 2008, in Washington, D.C. These awards recognize the incredible public service efforts of local radio and television stations. Local broadcasters keep the public informed in times of need, partner with community groups to disseminate important messages, sponsor events for charities and volunteer personal time to activities that enrich the lives of their viewers and listeners. Stations deserve recognition for their service. We encourage you to submit your entries for a Service to America Award today! Complete details and entry rules and procedures are available at www.nabef.org/ServiceToAmerica.
In addition to recognizing the service of local radio and television broadcasters across the nation, the Service to America Leadership Award will be presented to entertainment industry icon Quincy Jones. The Leadership Award, NABEF's highest honor, is given to an individual who has performed extraordinary public service in bettering the lives of others. Jones is being recognized for his humanitarian work in establishing the Listen Up Foundation and the We Are the Future Foundation, both dedicated to helping underprivileged youth.
NABEF will also honor Country Cares for St. Jude Kids with the Samaritan Award, which is given to a broadcaster or organization that exemplifies the industry's commitment to serving the public interest through the airwaves. Country Cares is one of the most successful radio fundraising events in America. Since its inception, Country Cares has worked with nearly 200 radio stations to raise $315 million for the kids of St. Jude. Alabama lead singer Randy Owen, who played a vital role in establishing Country Cares, will accept the award on behalf of the campaign.
