DTV Road Show to Begin Second Leg of Nationwide Education Tour

This week, NAB is launching the second leg of its digital television (DTV) Road Show with an additional DTV Trekker truck that will travel to Winter Haven, Fla., for the Florida Citrus Festival. Together, the two DTV Trekkers will travel 95,000 miles, visiting 600 locations in 200 markets nationwide over the next 13 months.

Attendees of the NBC4 Health Expo in Washington, D.C., visited the DTV booth to receive information on the DTV converter box coupon program.

Hundreds of people line up around the DTV Trekker and learn more about the February 17, 2009 switch to digital television.

NAB kicked off the DTV Road Show in November 2007 as part of its multifaceted consumer education campaign. The DTV Trekkers, which are designed to look like giant 20-foot television sets with antennas, are the centerpieces of the road show and feature scrolling messages about the DTV transition. The road show also includes kiosks that provide demonstrations of the difference between analog and digital signals, educational literature and fun interactive games consumers can play to win prizes.

The road show has already visited multiple locations, including numerous venues throughout Texas and Virginia. Most recently, the DTV Trekker traveled through Richmond and Roanoke, Va., with exhibits at the state capitol, various shopping centers and the Mac Events Boat Show. Receiving an overwhelmingly positive response during each stop, the DTV Road Show provides a fun and engaging way for families to get the information they need to prepare for the switch to digital television.

This past weekend, the DTV Road Show had another successful showing at the NBC 4 Health and Fitness Expo in Washington, D.C., with a featured display on the exposition floor. Thousands of local D.C., Maryland and Virginia residents stopped by the DTV Trekker to inquire about the DTV transition, the converter box coupon program and to participate in the demonstrations and activities.

NAB is also promoting the road show as part of its on-air consumer education campaign, which includes a variety of DTV action television spots.
