While the FCC will hear from industry groups and broadcasters like you, they need to hear from third party community groups as well, groups that understand fully the impact that local broadcasters have on their communities. Broadcasters should reach out to all of their community partners, including local elected officials, charity organizations, police and fire unions and other groups and convince them to file comments in support of your localism efforts.
Your community partners need not oppose the proposed FCC rules specifically. Instead, they should offer simple statements that illustrate the many ways your local station has positively affected the community. These simple messages of support, multiplied by thousands, will help create a compelling case that the proposed FCC rules are not only unnecessary, but may actually harm broadcasters' ability to provide public service and public interest programming.
If you are interested in helping rally your community partners, here’s how to do it:
- Open this Word Document by clicking here.
- Open your email program, and add the name or names of the community partner(s) you would like to recruit.
- Copy and paste the entire content of the Word document into the body of the email. The Word document includes links that will take the third party to a page where they can easily file their comments.
- We encourage you to add your own comments and personal touches to the email and send.
