Reach Out to Your Policymakers During August Recess: Local Radio Freedom Act

The record labels' front group – musicFIRST – continues to aggressively lobby Congress to impose a performance tax on local radio stations. As members of Congress are in their home districts for the August recess, now is the time to invite them to your station to educate them on radio's local impact in your community.

Review this list to see if your legislators are currently supporting this legislation or cosponsored it in the last Congress. If your representatives are cosponsoring the legislation, please thank them for standing up for local radio on air or on your social media accounts, and encourage your local radio listeners to do the same. Use #SupportLocalRadio so we can amplify your efforts. Our opponents are lobbying aggressively against this legislation, but policymakers will pay attention to the support and gratitude of their constituents.

If your legislators are not cosponsoring the legislation, click here to urge them to support the Local Radio Freedom Act. Make sure they know about your station's involvement in your local community, including news and emergency coverage, service projects and the jobs you provide, so they understand radio's importance to their constituents.

As a reminder, we provide resources for stations to help build strong relationships with policymakers at nab.org/speakup, and you can find information on our other key issues at nab.org/AdvocacyResources.

We thank you for your support and engagement in our advocacy efforts. Working together, we are ensuring a vibrant future for radio.
