House of Representatives Highlights Broadcasters’ Critical Role in Emergencies

The House of Representatives recently passed the Securing Access to Networks in Disasters (SANDy) Act, championed by Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ-06). This bill makes several changes to wireless and emergency networks in order to improve disaster response. It officially recognizes the role radio and television broadcasters play in emergency situations, and amends the Stafford Act in order to support this response. The bill has now been introduced in the Senate.

NAB is grateful to Rep. Pallone for his leadership on this legislation and his consistent acknowledgement of broadcasters’ unique first informer role
