Jim Hurwitz
Product Manager for On-Camera and E-Cinema Products, Camera Systems
Jim Hurwitz is currently the Product Manager for On-Camera and E-Cinema Products at Telecast Fiber Systems.
With more than 24 years of industry experience, Jim has been responsible for the definition and development of Telecast’s CopperHead™ product line, which won Broadcast Engineering Magazine’s Best of Show at NAB2001. CopperHead has since become the industry standard for camera-mounted fiber optic links.
Jim manages the company’s relationships with the world’s leading camera manufacturers, as well as broadcasters, sports venues, and the emerging Hollywood Electronic Cinema marketplace. He also manages Telecast’s sales, support and marketing efforts in the Western United States.
Jim serves as Chairman of the Technology Committee of the Information and Display Entertainment Association (IDEA), the international association of electronic display system and scoreboard operators within the sports, entertainment and convention industries. Members include most of North America’s professional baseball and football stadiums, hockey and basketball arenas, as well as race tracks, convention centers, universities and casinos.
Prior to Jim’s five years with Telecast, he ran the wireless video division at Telex Communications, which began as a startup company he founded in his garage. The winner of multiple local Emmy awards, he previously worked as a network and local newscast and field news producer, editor and videographer. He has also been granted several patents for broadcast camera accessories, and has another patent pending.
Jim has a BA in Mass Communications and English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley, and did his graduate work at U.C. Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, where he helped create two award-winning documentaries: “The Four Corners” (AMPAS Student Academy Awards, 1983, assistant editor) and “Contents Under Pressure” (American Film Institute, National Video Festival, Northwest Region, 1985, Director of Photography). He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
