The opening ceremony will feature NAB President and CEO Dr. David Rehr, who will deliver his second annual State of the Industry Address focusing on import of what radio and television broadcasters have to say, and on how the broadcast business is headed for rebirth in a new digital age.
Senator Mary Landrieu, Senior Senator from the State of Louisiana
A tireless advocate in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Senator Landrieu will discuss the continued efforts and vital role of broadcasters in the recovery efforts and ways in which Congress can be supportive of the industry.
Distinguished Service Award Winner, David L. Wolper
"Roots" cast members LeVar Burton, Louis Gossett, Jr. and Leslie Uggams join in honoring David L. Wolper with the NAB Distinguished Service Award. During his 50-year career, Wolper has made more than 700 films and won more than 150 awards, including two Oscars, 50 Emmys, 7 Golden Globes and 5 Peabodys.
Dubbed “the single most spectacular educational experience in race relations in America,” his 1977 television epic, Roots, changed the country and captivated audiences of all races and creeds. His successful miniseries approach has had a profound impact on the evolution of television.
The Distinguished Service Award recognizes broadcasters who have made significant and lasting contributions to the broadcasting industry.
