Podcasting is the first mass distribution technology that bypasses the traditional gatekeepers at networks and cable channels. This creates greater opportunities for producers and gives audiences expanded choice. The trends are clear, democratized production technologies and podcast-driven digital distribution will create new program styles, financial models and ways of growing an audience. Visual entertainment delivery channels are evolving from a time of limited possibilities to an era of abundant opportunities. As Barry Diller said, "[The Internet] means that the distribution leverage – the chokepoint – is going to evaporate." Those who understand the trends early, and learn how to manage the transition, will be the first to benefit. Our industry has already expanded as a result of democratized production, now it’s time for us to benefit from the easier and more affordable distribution that podcasting provides.
