From Adobe Photoshop to Apple Motion
Transitioning great static designs created in PhotoShop to Motion is a seamless process. This session will focus on taking a layered Photoshop project and using Motion’s real-time design engine to quickly and easily create compelling motion graphics. Focus will be on how to use Motion to bring life to great static designs using behaviors, filters and type.
Audience: Beginner to Intermediate Designers, Editors and Motion Graphics users.
Instructor: Yan Shvalb, Founder, VizualFX
Flash and After Effects: Two Great Tastes that Taste Great Together
Now that Adobe has welcomed Flash into their toolset, post people should take a close look at what it has to offer. And web folks should have a close look at After Effects. Both applications support timeline-based animation, video and scripting. So how are they different? How can they be used together to create content for web, film or video? This session will demystify Flash for AE users and AE for Flash users. You’ll learn how to move content back and forth between the two applications. You’ll learn about making Flash video with alpha channels. You’ll learn about using AE to design text animation for Flash. Don’t get stuck in an either/or mindset. Think "both!"

Alpha Channels Demystified - Achieving Perfect Transparency
Do you understand Alpha Channels? Do you REALLY understand them? Can you pull a good key from so-so footage? This session goes far beyond understanding the basics of alpha channels, and dives into the advanced world of image extraction and masking. Learn how to use channels, layer masks, and selection tools to extract images and create alpha channels that play friendly with video applications.
Audience: All levels of users, as this is an essential skill.

Keying with Adobe Ultra II
Yes, other programs have keying options but Ultra II was built for it. Ultra II can produce broadcast-quality composites and deliver great results for DV-format video sources and HDV/HD. Along with superb keying ability, you can also add virtual camera-move effects. From keying wrinkled backgrounds, frizzy hair, smoke, liquids, transparent objects, to other challenging keys, Ultra 2 can handle it. Come scratch the surface of this robust tool and learn about keying from a finer perspective.
Audience: Experienced NLEs and Motion Graphic Artists interested in understanding keying in Adobe Ultra II.

In-Depth: Character Animation in After Effects
Learn how to do automatic lip-synching, how to create walk cycles and how to bring your animated characters to life.
When Disney created Snow White, the animators had real difficulty in developing the human characters. They tried tracing film frames but found that the movements were just too ‘real’ to be convincing for an animated film. From this, they learned that pushing the possibilities of science and nature to extremes would result in a more dynamic and appealing animation.
In this session you will learn to animate characters using various techniques including inverse kinematics, image warping, parenting and expressions. Find out how easy it is to imitate the Jib-Jab style of animation, influenced by Monty Python and South Park. You’ll also learn how to make your characters talk using lip-synching techniques.
Level – Intermediate to Advanced
Instructor: Angie Taylor,Animator and Digital Artist

From Apple Motion to Adobe After Effects - A Bigger Toolbox
Using Motion and After Effects for their respective strengths can bring greater creative freedom and faster workflows to Motion Graphics Artists. This session will concentrate on how to use Motion to start a project using its real-time workflow, behaviors and particle emitters. Then bring the native Motion project into After Effects to employ in an AE composition that uses cameras and lights to complete the project.
Audience: Intermediate to Advanced Editors and Motion Graphics Artists.

The Pen is Mightier than the Sword: Using the Pen Tool for Motion Graphics
The Pen is one of the most useful tools in After Effects, Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator and dozens of other applications. It’s used for creating smooth shapes, alpha masks and motion paths for animation. If you learn it, your productivity will soar in many, many ways. Sadly, many artists never touch it. Or they give up on it after a few attempts. This is because it’s not an intuitive tool. It has a lot of rules that you must learn before you can effectively use it. Not to worry! This session will teach you those rules. Armed with the knowledge you’ll gain here, you’ll become a true pen master in no time -- and you’ll never look back!

How to Beat the After Effects Render Queue
Do you want to take rendering speeds from slow to supersonic? Wondering how to dramatically increase your workflow speed in AE? By the end of this class you will be on your way to supersonic workflow and rendering. You’ll master the render queue’s many options, as well as learn about using proxies. You’ll also get a first hand look at X-Factor, which can exponentially speed up your render and preview times.
Audience: All users who are tired of waiting. Beginners will appreciate learning tricks that a lot of pros don’t know. Seasoned animators will appreciate picking up essential timesaving enhancements.
