NAB CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO WAWZ-FM

LAS VEGAS -- WAWZ-FM Zarephath, NJ today was awarded the National Association of Broadcasters Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service.

Ten winners were chosen from among 50 finalists. Recipients were recognized at today's NAB Show Radio Luncheon.

WAWZ-FM provided this description of its accomplishments in 2007:

"2007 was an incredible year of community service for WAWZ-FM. More than $20,000 was raised for families who lost everything in the same flood that wiped out the basement of the radio station. A field was filled with 2,974 pairs of empty shoes and the same number of American flags to commemorate the 2,974 lives lost on 9/11, and to take away the breath of those driving past. WAWZ was the media sponsor of the 12th largest American Heart Association 'Go Red for Women Luncheon' in the nation. More than 4,500 people attended a free concert that celebrated the release of Casting Crowns new CD and provided support to both the Goodwill Rescue Mission of Newark and the people of Newark following the shooting of three college students. And this doesn't include the concert we started the year off with to cover funeral expenses for a family whose son passed away from bacterial meningitis, or the many Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Canine Coalitions, Big Brother and Big Sister Benefits, and Juvenile Diabetes fund-raisers that the station staff supported on their own. In may be an understatement to say that WAWZ helped change lives this past year."

The NAB Radio Luncheon, sponsored by ASCAP, featured a keynote address by Robert Pittman, MTV co-founder and former Co-COO of AOL Time Warner. During the luncheon, Larry Lujack, legendary Chicago radio personality, was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame and WUSL-FM Philadelphia was given the NAB Crystal Heritage Award for long-term commitment to community service.
