NAB Statement on Introduction of READI Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to today’s introduction of the Reliable Emergency Alert Distribution Improvement (READI) Act of 2018 by Sens. Brian Schatz (D-HI) and John Thune (R-SD), the following statement can be attributed to NAB Executive Vice President of Communications Dennis Wharton:

“NAB applauds Sen. Schatz on the introduction of the READI Act, which would strengthen our nation’s Emergency Alert System by improving coordination between federal and local authorities in the face of an imminent threat, and ensuring the timely and accurate transmittal of information to the public. Local radio and TV broadcasters take seriously our lifeline role as ‘first informers’ when disaster strikes, providing vital information to help keep communities safe. We look forward to working with Sen. Schatz and his colleagues in Congress to improve upon the accuracy and reliability of emergency alerts.”
