LAS VEGAS -- WREW-FM Cincinnati, OH today was awarded the National Association of Broadcasters' Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service.

Ten winners were chosen among 50 finalists who were honored at today's NAB Show Radio Luncheon.

WREW-FM provided this description of its accomplishments in 2011:

"In 2011, WREW's involvement ranged from large scale events like the Tour De Cure that raised $132,000 to fight diabetes to small, meaningful personal connections as staff became mentors and pen pals to area third graders. WREW's involvement went national raising nearly $3,000 for families affected by the Missouri and Alabama tornadoes. Events supported or created by WREW raised a total of $2,075,703. WREW, nominated for the 2011 NAB Marconi Radio Award for AC Station of the Year, aired over 6,100 minutes of public service announcements and community-focused programming. WREW was proud to be a part of Race for the Cure to support the fight against breast cancer. Often names and faces are lost in our service to the community, but a meaningful memory was born at the completion of this race for one of WREW's team: The true honor and privilege to cheer on a breast cancer survivor as she raced toward the finish line and to be the first to hug and congratulate her amazing accomplishment."

Major League Baseball radio broadcaster Bob Uecker was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame. The luncheon was sponsored by ASCAP.
