NAB
CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO WKRQ-FM LAS VEGAS -- WKRQ-FM Cincinnati, OH today was awarded the National Association of Broadcasters' Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service. Ten winners were chosen among 50 finalists who were honored at today's NAB Show Radio Luncheon. WKRQ-FM
provided this description of its accomplishments in 2011: "How
does radio break through the noise? WKRQ does it by taking paths less
traveled. In Cincinnati, WKRQ walks a unique programming, community service
and ratings path. While raising $4.4 million for charities and devoting
2,782 hours of community service WKRQ has grown to #1 Women 25-54 and
#3 Adults 25-54. WKRQ is inspired by the lives of its listeners, helping
raise $2 million for breast cancer with events like Q102's Bosom Ball.
WKRQ's Jeff & Jenn Mornings were awarded City Beat Magazine's 2011
Best Radio Personality and were Cincinnati's #1 morning show Women 25-54.
Jeff & Jenn's charitable outreach included the "Little Red Dress
Party" for the Heart Association and Jeff & Jenn's "Bras
Across the Bridge" for breast cancer. WKRQ's Brian and Laura Afternoons
also touched the community. Not only was Brian and Laura's show #1 with
Women 25-54 but Brian was honored as a "Pink Tie Guy" - a select
group of men chosen to promote Susan G. Komen. WKRQ, nominated for the
2011 NAB Marconi Radio Award for Large Market Station of the Year, aired
over 12,600 minutes of public service airtime for its outreach initiatives
while remaining #1 on Cincinnati's airwaves...that's a path less traveled."
