NAB CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO KYW-AM

LAS VEGAS -- KYW-AM Philadelphia, PA today was awarded the National Association of Broadcasters' Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round commitment to community service.

Ten winners were chosen among 50 finalists who were honored at today's NAB Show Radio Luncheon.

KYM-AM provided this description of its accomplishments in 2011:

"In 2011, KYW celebrated 90 well-traveled years of broadcasting. Since 1965, KYW Newsradio has become the news source for upwards of 1.5 million listeners who tune in each week for the latest in local, national and international news, weather, sports, and traffic. For many of its 46 years in Philadelphia, KYW has enjoyed an unprecedented run as the market's top-rated radio station, serving the region with "All News, All the Time." KYW Newsradio programming includes community series like the Regional Affairs Council, Community Affairs Reporting, Positively Philadelphia, Wednesday's Child, and much more. Since 1968, KYW has afforded students from high schools across the Delaware Valley the opportunity to learn about broadcast journalism in a major market radio station with the "Newstudies Student Reporter" program. The KYW "Kidcast Mobile Studio" is a family-friendly onsite entertainment and education tool that tours the Delaware Valley all year long. KYW's "Laptop Daily Double" program provides listeners from the Greater Philadelphia Area with the tools of the 21st century and culminates in the donation of a new computer lab to a deserving school in the region. KYW Newsradio is proud to be a Philadelphia institution that benefits the community and supports social consciousness and education."

Today's NAB Show Radio Luncheon also featured a presentation of the NAB Crystal Heritage Award to KUZZ-FM Bakersfield, CA and a keynote address from entertainer Donny Osmond. Major League Baseball radio broadcaster Bob Uecker was inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame. The luncheon was sponsored by ASCAP.
