CRYSTAL RADIO AWARD PRESENTED TO KVOE-AM
VEGAS -- KVOE-AM Emporia, KS today was awarded the National Association
of Broadcasters' Crystal Radio Award. Since 1987, the NAB Crystal Radio
Awards have recognized radio stations for their outstanding year-round
commitment to community service.
provided this description of its accomplishments in 2011:
began in 1939 as KTSW, but was changed to KVOE in 1952 by new ownership
to reflect Kansas' Voice of Emporia. We take tremendous pride in the more
than 70 years KVOE has been the Voice of Emporia, as the only station
in our market providing live and local news, weather, and sports. KVOE's
biggest community service project each year is the Drive for Food which
collected over 22,000 non-perishable food items for Salvation Army food
pantry in 2011. KVOE also hosts the annual National Teacher's Hall of
Fame radio auction on our airwaves, which in 2011 raised $17,000. KVOE
promotes local non-profit activities and fundraisers by airing interviews,
announcements and remote broadcasts for free. In 2011, KVOE aired over
570 live interviews, over 5,000 minutes of PSAs, over 5,200 live reads,
and over 60 free remote broadcasts. KVOE staffers on a weekly basis take
turns delivering Friendship Meals to the elderly and shut-ins. Live &
Local is not just our slogan, it's what we do and how we live."
