Director, Research and Information
EXEMPT
Basic Function:
This position supports the initiatives of the Research and Information Division of the Communications Department by providing research expertise on a range of relevant issues (such as broadcast audience measurement, economics, telecommunications policy and technology), as well as superior skills in primary research design and project management.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Plans, conducts and manages primary research projects on policy, economic, technical and other broadcast industry-related issues.
- Creates original project designs for research programs, and oversees the execution and completion of these projects.
- Plans and conducts broadcast audience analyses using Nielsen and Arbitron software and data, as well as audience data from various other sources.
- Writes research reports and industry analyses as needed and as directed by vice president of Research and Information.
- Manages and oversees selected NAB research projects.
- Manages meetings and initiatives of NAB’s committees on Television and Radio local audience measurement.
- Assists vice president of Research and Information in representing NAB before internal committees and external organizations on audience research issues.
- Serves as in-house resource for NAB staff and members on a range of issues requiring broadcast media research, technical, economic and/or policy expertise.
- Supports other departmental initiatives as directed by the vice president of Research and Information.
Internal Relations:
Reports to the vice president, Research and Information, and works closely with Research staff and other NAB departments, including Communications, Government Relations, Legal, TV and Radio departments, Membership and Marketing.
External Relations:
Serves as a contact for NAB research committees, and works closely with NAB members. Serves as a liaison to audience measurement organizations Nielsen and Arbitron.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Five years of hands-on research analysis and reporting experience that includes analyzing TV, radio or other media ratings and/or analyzing social science research data.
- Strong background and expertise in one or more of the following research areas: broadcast audience measurement, telecommunications policy, communication technology or econometric analysis as related to media.
- Detailed knowledge of the broadcast industry.
