NAB Ad Thanks Nearly 300 Lawmakers for Supporting Local Radio
The National Association of Broadcasters today placed an advertisement in two D.C. political publications, Roll Call and Congressional Quarterly, thanking the nearly 300 lawmakers who have cosponsored the Local Radio Freedom Act, a bipartisan resolution that opposes "any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge" on local radio stations for music aired free to listeners.

NAB Show to Gather Affiliate Groups, Exec Boards
The affiliate boards of directors for ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX Television, along with representatives from the full FOX affiliate association, will once again hold meetings during the NAB Show, NAB announced today. NABEF Celebrates Broadcast Leadership Training Program's 10th Anniversary
The NAB Education Foundation (NABEF) yesterday celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Broadcast Leadership Training Program, a curriculum that teaches senior level broadcast executives the fundamentals of purchasing, owning and successfully operating radio and television stations. To date, 37 percent of the alumni of the BLT Program have received one or more promotions and 28 former students have purchased stations.

NAB Statement on Today's Call for a Performance Tax Negotiation
NAB issued a statement today commenting on a letter from Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (VT), House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (MI-14) and members of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees regarding their request for a meeting to discuss legislation that would levy a new performance fee on local radio stations for playing music. The legislation, known as the Performance Rights Act, is strongly supported by the Recording Industry Association of America.

New Study Highlights America's Opposition to Performance Fee
A clear majority of Americans oppose legislation backed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) that would force local radio stations to pay an additional fee for every song aired free to listeners, according to a poll released today by the National Association of Broadcasters. The poll reveals that 75 percent of participants do not support a performance fee levied on radio stations, and 85 percent recognize the promotional value radio airplay brings to artists and their music.
