National Cyber Security Awareness Month
The Cyber Security Pledge campaign is an initiative of the nonprofit Center for Internet Security, and is designed to encourage citizens to declare their commitment to using good practices for staying safe on the Internet.

The online pledge delineates key behaviors for users to protect themselves and their information, both at home and in the workplace. The pledge also encourages users to take action by spreading the message of good cyber security practices to their friends, coworkers, neighbors and community.

The pledge is one of many initiatives underway in support of National Cyber Security Awareness Month in October. To sign the pledge and learn more about staying safe online, visit http://www.cisecurity.org/.

National Library Service
The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS)—the Library of Congress’ talking-book and braille program—celebrated 80 years of helping visually impaired and physically handicapped individuals to enjoy reading their favorite books and magazines.

Talking Books is a free library service that provides digitally recorded books and special playback equipment to a readership of more than 850,000 Americans. Any resident of the United States or U.S. citizen living abroad whose low vision, blindness or physical handicap makes reading regular print difficult is eligible for the program. The NLS collection of more than 400,000 titles of bestsellers, classics, biographies, romance, and other genres delights even the most selective readers. Magazine lovers enjoy free subscriptions to more than 40 periodicals in audio format.

Patrons are served locally through a national network of cooperating libraries. Beginning with just 19 libraries in 1931, the NLS network today includes 113 libraries throughout the United States and its territories. Thirteen percent of our wounded soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan have eye injuries. U.S. veterans receive priority lending status for NLS materials. NLS considers its service to veterans to be a core part of its mandate.

Your station can help -- consider including these 15, 30- and 60 -- second public service announcements in your daily rotation schedule. Empower listeners with this valuable information.

Listeners interested in more information or in signing up may call 888-NLS-READ or visit www.loc.gov/nls/.
